Power 100: Women in Innovation in India by CII and pwc
In a prestigious recognition of her groundbreaking contributions to the Indian start-up ecosystem, Romita, the founder and CEO of iHeal HealthTech, has been honored as one of the Top 50 Women in Innovation by PwC and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry). The esteemed accolade highlights Romita's extraordinary achievements and visionary leadership in the field of healthcare entrepreneurship.
Romita's journey began with a personal battle against blood cancer during her childhood. Witnessing firsthand the impact of effective treatment, she was inspired to explore the intersection of biotechnology, innovation, and healthcare. Graduating with a double major in biotechnology and biochemistry, Romita embarked on a path of research in cancer, working closely with renowned scholars and fellows at leading institutions such as the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tata Mumbai Cancer Centre.
However, it was during her research that Romita realized a significant gap between the abundance of knowledge and the translation of that knowledge into tangible innovations. Motivated to make a more substantial impact, she pursued an MBA in biotechnology management and marketing, following the advice of her seniors. This decision laid the foundation for her entrepreneurial journey, as Romita ventured into the world of start-ups.
Romita's current venture, iHeal HealthTech, aims to revolutionize healthcare accessibility through innovative digital solutions. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and deep tech research, the company develops cutting-edge tools and technologies that empower individuals and communities to manage their health and wellness effectively. Operating under multiple brands, including MedSamaan, LOMO, and MAAP, iHeal HealthTech caters to the B2C, D2C, and B2B/B2G segments, respectively. The company's research wing is also dedicated to building next-generation medical technologies.
LOMO aims to solve the gap in Musculoskeletal Health (MSK) of people with personalised products and services for MSK disorders (neck pain, back pain, arthritis, gout, sports injuries and 150 others) which sequentially reduce our quality of life so that our customers do not have to adjust to conditions that drastically reduce their productivity.Â
Driven by a mission to improve healthcare outcomes in India, Romita envisions impacting the lives of fifty million by 2030. Additionally, she aims to enhance the health of patients with bone and joint conditions through deep-tech digital health solutions over the next decade.
Speaking about her entrepreneurial journey, Romita emphasizes the importance of learning, experimenting, and making mistakes to be truly disruptive. She offers this advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs, particularly those in the healthcare sector, encouraging them to follow their passion and strive for excellence.
Romita's inclusion among the Top 50 Women in Innovation not only celebrates her personal achievements but also highlights the transformative power of women-led start-ups in driving societal change. The recognition serves as an inspiration for countless others, reaffirming the potential for inclusivity and diversity to create groundbreaking innovations and foster an equitable entrepreneurial landscape.
As Romita continues to steer iHeal HealthTech toward greater heights, her unwavering dedication to improving healthcare and empowering communities serves as a shining example of female entrepreneurship and innovation in India.
